In this three-hour Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) certification, students will gain an understanding of, and appreciation for, the many species of birds that live in and migrate through this part of southern Ontario.
Participants will learn the basics of bird identification, noting that song, size, shape, colour, habits and habitat can all aid in classification. Students will also have an opportunity to examine adaptations using hands-on specimens.
Field investigations will utilize bird guides and binoculars, as participants experience a birding survey around the property. Students will then take part in an independent bird survey to demonstrate the skills they have learned.
