Have fun learning about the characteristics, life cycles and importance of plants in nature.

Students will observe a wide variety of native plants in their natural environment. They will identify the major parts of plants and describe their functions. They will learn how to classify plants according to their physical characteristics.

Students will investigate how plants grow, the life cycles of plants, and the seasonal changes of plants in nature. They will examine how the growth of plants is effected by environmental conditions. Most important, they will develop an appreciation of and respect for the importance of plants as sources of food and shelter for people and animals and suppliers of much of the world’s oxygen.

Preparation:
Programs always have an outdoor component. Groups should dress for the conditions on the day of their visit. Before your visit, please discuss the importance of dressing appropriately for outdoor activities. On days of inclement weather the program will be modified to include some indoor activities along with the outdoor components.

Half day, available April to October.
