Program Levels:
Course Types:
In this program students will experience a hands-on simulation of a real archaeological excavation.
The program begins with a brief introduction to the science of archaeology and a hands-on examination of some real artefacts from an actual village from the 1500’s which was excavated on the Kortright property.
In an outdoor area, students will shovel and sift through the upper layer of soil to look for artefacts. Just like in a real Ontario archaeological dig, they will find objects made from stone, bone and clay.
Preparation:
Programs always have an outdoor component. Groups should dress for the conditions on the day of their visit. Before your visit, please discuss the importance of dressing appropriately for outdoor activities. On days of inclement weather the program will be modified to include some indoor activities along with the outdoor components.
