Credit Valley Conservation (CVC), Peel Region, and Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) have worked in partnership to create a new waterfront conservation area in the City of Mississauga that connects people and wildlife back to nature.
The Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area provides 26 hectares of new greenspace, transforming Mississauga’s Lakeview neighbourhood into a hub for passive waterfront recreation, a hotspot for wildlife migration, and a green oasis in the heart of the city.
The new conservation area is named in honour of the late Mississauga Councillor Jim Tovey, a dedicated champion of conservation and a long-serving member of the TRCA Board of Directors.
About the Project
The creation of the new Jim Tovey Lakeview Conservation Area was a multi-year process that included environmental assessment, engineering and design planning, permitting, landform construction, habitat restoration, and placemaking.
Visitors can explore 3.6 km of trails, including 1.9 km of the Waterfront Trail. The site features an accessible network of trails, boardwalks, lookouts, and gathering spaces, including an Indigenous Teaching Amphitheatre.

The conservation area includes:
- 1.6 km of newly established shoreline
- 5.3 ha of grassland habitat
- 5.6 ha of forest habitat
- 4 ha of young, naturally evolving habitat that supports pollinators and wildlife, referred to as successional habitat
- 5.3 ha of wetland habitat
These restored habitats help create a healthier, more resilient shoreline. More than 76,000 wetland plants and 38,000 trees and shrubs have also been planted to help the landscape thrive for generations to come.
