Afternoon, Day Visit, Morning

Through activities and demonstrations students are introduced to the processes that create soil.

Students will explore the main components of soil and particle size, and discuss how it is affected by water and wind, and how soil, in turn, affects vegetation and wildlife.

Students participate in experiments, learn vocabulary associated with the soil ecosystem, and learn soil conservation measures they can practice to preserve these resources.

An activity sheet to record their observations during the program provides students with a reference sheet to take back to the classroom.

Preparation:
Programs always have an outdoor component. Groups should dress for the conditions on the day of their visit. Before your visit, please discuss the importance of dressing appropriately for outdoor activities. On days of inclement weather the program will be modified to include some indoor activities along with the outdoor components.
