Every spring and fall, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) staff are busy planting native trees and shrubs, as well as herbaceous and aquatic plants, across our jurisdiction on ecological restoration, engineering, forest management, community stewardship, and ecosystem management project sites.
These plantings are vital to maintaining and restoring healthy ecosystems. Trees, shrubs, and other plants play a critical role in providing ecosystem goods and services such as cleaner air and water, supporting biodiversity, and enhancing community well-being.
Forest restoration efforts by organizations like TRCA help to combat the negative impacts of urbanization, invasive species, and climate change by sequestering carbon, reducing urban heat, and protecting wildlife habitat.
