Humber River Watershed Plan Progress Update: We Are Looking for Your Input!

April 25, 2025

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) has now completed the first three stages of the watershed planning process for the new Humber River Watershed Plan (HRWP):

During Stage 3, we assessed the impacts of a range of potential future land use and climate change scenarios, along with varying levels of watershed enhancements. This information helps us understand how future watershed conditions may change.

We are pleased to announce the release of the Future Management Scenarios Analysis Report, which presents the results of extensive watershed modelling and technical scenario analyses, along with a Factsheet outlining key findings.

Provide Your Input to Help Shape the Future
of the Humber River Watershed!

We are looking for your input on the management framework for the watershed plan, including the objectives, indicators, and priority actions needed to address the key watershed issues.

Here’s how to provide your feedback and learn more:

Next Steps (2025-2026)

An Engagement Summary will be posted on the project webpage, once available, outlining engagement throughout the Future Management Scenarios Stage (including the results from the engagement survey).

As part of the final stage of the watershed planning process (Stage 4: Implementation Planning), we will develop a realistic management framework for the watershed plan. This will include identifying the priority actions needed to protect, enhance, and restore watershed health.

The management framework will be informed by the watershed characterization and scenario analysis results, as well as engagement input. We will also develop, and seek input on, the draft watershed plan.

Project Update & Release of the Humber River Watershed Characterization Report and Engagement Summary 1

October 23, 2023

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) has completed the first two stages of the watershed planning process for the new Humber River Watershed Plan (HRWP), including preparation/scoping (Stage 1) and watershed characterization (Stage 2).

We are pleased to release the Humber River Watershed Characterization Report and Characterization Factsheet, and to share the results and key messages from watershed characterization.

This report presents the findings from extensive watershed monitoring and technical characterization analyses and provides an overview of the current conditions of the watershed and trends since the last watershed plan was released in 2008.

The Engagement Summary 1 has also been prepared.

This report summarizes engagement activities for the HRWP from May 2022 to October 2023, including results from the initial engagement survey in Fall 2022.

Work on the future management scenarios stage of the watershed planning process (Stage 3) is also currently underway, and will examine different potential future land use scenarios and climate change to understand how watershed conditions may change.

The results of the characterization and future management scenarios stages will identify the key issues and opportunities in the watershed, which will inform implementation planning (Stage 4) for the final watershed plan, including the development of a management framework identifying actions to ensure the long-term sustainability and resiliency of the watershed.

We’ll be sharing the results of the watershed characterization and future management scenarios stages, and looking for your feedback on the priorities for action to address the key issues facing the watershed, as well as your input to the objectives and indicators for the HRWP at our next engagement sessions later in 2024!

Please email us at humber@trca.ca with any questions or information you would like to share as we continue to develop the HRWP.

Humber Watershed Plan: Project Update

November 1, 2022

The initial engagement and commenting period for the development of the new Humber River Watershed Plan (HRWP) is now complete.

Thank you to those who completed our survey or attended one of our webinars and provided input.

Your feedback will help us identify the important watershed themes/words that will guide the development of the vision statement for the watershed, the key watershed issues for the HRWP, and any climate or weather-related changes or impacts experience/observed in the watershed.

TRCA will now review and compile all input received, and will release an Engagement Summary once completed.

If you have any additional comments on the development of the HRWP, or information you would like to share on the Humber River watershed, please email us at humber@trca.ca.

If you weren’t able to attend one of our webinars, you can watch our virtual presentation at your convenience any time:
