Hike through the various habitats at Kortright and examine the roles and relationships among the biotic and abiotic elements. Discuss factors that may affect the balances in nature and changes over time.

Concepts covered include: ecosystems, populations, communities, food chains, food webs, succession dynamics and balances. By the end of the program, students will better understand that an ecosystem is a system of interactions between the living organisms and their environment. Students will also discuss how humans have influenced ecosystems, both through misuse as well as conservation and management techniques.

Preparation:
Programs always have an outdoor component. Groups should dress for the conditions on the day of their visit. Before your visit, please discuss the importance of dressing appropriately for outdoor activities. On days of inclement weather the program will be modified to include some indoor activities along with the outdoor components.
