Carr-Reid Archaeology Bursary

The Carr-Reid Bursary provides 50% of the course fee to the Boyd Archaeological Field School for one recipient each year.

How to Apply

The bursary is available to any Canadian high school student. Students should have completed Grade 10, and be no older than 21 years at the time of the course.

Students will be asked to complete the application form below and provide a 500-word essay.

The essay should describe your career aspirations, your interests, and your goals for the future. Please highlight any experience with related activities, as well as other volunteer and extracurricular activities.

Students are asked to address their financial situation and explain how this bursary would assist them.

Applications will be assessed on the demonstrated financial need of the student and his or her passion for attending the Field School.

Students should obtain a supporting letter of reference from a high school teacher, principal or guidance counsellor. Please ensure that your referee receives a copy of the Archaeology Bursary Referee Guide.

All applications will be reviewed by a committee comprising TRCA Archaeology and Education staff and potentially members of Durham District School Board’s Continuing Education program, which supports BoydFS.

The deadline for applications is June 1, 2025.

    Your Essay

Please submit your 500-word essay below. Please explain:

    • Your career aspirations, your interests and your goals for the future. We would like to learn more about you!

    • Why you want to attend the Boyd Archaeological Field School.

    • Any experience you have with related activities, as well as other volunteer and extracurricular activities.

    • Your financial situation, and how this bursary will help.

While grades are a consideration, the bursary will not necessarily be awarded to the student with the best academic record. Rather, we are looking for well-rounded learners who demonstrate a passion for history and culture, but who face financial barriers that might otherwise prevent them from participating in the course.
