Programs for Landowners

At Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), we recognize that landowners play an essential role in creating healthy watersheds. Through the following programs, TRCA works with landowners to help them protect and enhance their natural environment.

Private Land Planting Program

TRCA team members use heavy machinery to plant tree seedlings on private land

TRCA’s Private Land Planting Program helps landowners to restore and improve their properties through the planting of native trees and shrubs.

Our programs offer up to 90% funding for eligible projects, full planting services, and the supply of native trees and shrubs, many of which are grown in TRCA’s own nursery from locally collected seeds.

With more than 50 years of planting and forest management experience, our professionally trained staff provide the technical, financial, and implementation support to see your project develop from an idea into action.

Contact us today to discuss your project ideas and book your no-obligation site visit.

Forestry and Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program Planning Services

Over the past 50 years, TRCA has managed more than 6,000 ha (15,000 acres) of forested lands across our jurisdiction. This wealth of knowledge, experience, and technical expertise is available to private landowners through our Forestry Services Program.

The Ontario Managed Forest Tax Incentive Program (MFTIP) is a voluntary program that can save landowners up to 75% of property taxes on eligible portions of their property. This provincial program recognizes the importance of privately owned forests and the benefits they provide all Ontarians.

Rural Clean Water Programs

The Rural Clean Water Program (RCWP) began in 1997 with support from regional municipalities, Province of Ontario, and local agricultural organizations, as an agricultural/rural extension program to help improve and protect local water health.

The RCWP offers farmers and rural landowners free technical support and cost-share funding opportunities for 18 different best management practice (BMP) projects.

All grant projects help to enhance investments – including infrastructure – in farms and rural properties to protect, restore, and enhance water, air, soil, and habitat quality.
