In support of the Healthy Local Food System recommendations identified by the Bramalea SNAP Action Plan, we are working with local farms and organizations to support education and urban agriculture skills-building workshops.
These workshops address significant community interest in local food production, harvest distribution and sharing, and development of gardening and urban farming skills.
About This Project
With funding from Toronto and Region Conservation Authority’s (TRCA) Urban Agriculture program and in partnership with Ecosource, Bramalea SNAP is supporting the delivery of skills training workshops for Bramalea residents to equip them with the tools and knowledge to actively engage in local urban farming.

In 2023, Bramalea SNAP residents visited McVean Farm in Brampton and engaged in hands-on urban agriculture activities.
Led by members of the Black Youth Farming Collective (BYFC), a not-for-profit, youth-led organization operating on McVean Farm, residents participated in a guided farm tour and a spring transplanting workshop.
In Fall 2023, Bramalea SNAP residents returned to the farm to develop harvesting skills and engaged in a seed saving workshop.
More to come in 2024!
