Project Crossroads: Planting for Change is a first-time collaborative effort between the Association for Canadian Educational Resources (ACER), City of Brampton, Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), and local tower owners. Funded by Arbor Day Foundation, it aims to help reduce heat exposure and sensitivity within Bramalea SNAP areas.
Community tree planting events were conducted at two multi-unit residential buildings (Knightsbridge Kings Cross Apartments and Chelsea Gardens towers) and at Folkstone Public Park in the fall of 2020, adhering to approved Peel Health screening and distancing protocols.
A total of 153 large-caliper native species shade trees and pollinator shrubs were planted, and 79 participants were engaged through these events. Participants were trained on measuring and monitoring the trees, and local tree stewards have committed to monitor the trees.
