COMPLETED – Yellow Creek Below Summerhill Gardens Channel Repairs

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) completed erosion control works along a section of Yellow Creek for the protection of essential infrastructure and public safety and to improve channel stability and function. 

Project Location

The project area is located within the Vale of Avoca Ravine (also referred to as the Yellow Creek ravine) and is generally located southeast of Yonge Street and St. Clair Avenue East, in the City of Toronto. The area of concern is a section of Yellow Creek that runs directly below Summerhill Gardens south of David A. Balfour Park.

Scope of Work

  • Start Date: October 2024
  • End Date: May 2025

The goal of this project was to address the ongoing erosion issues along this reach of Yellow Creek by providing robust, long-term protection measures from the erosive forces of the creek. The scope of work included the following:

  • Construction of armourstone walls
  • Construction of vegetated buttresses
  • Construction of a stonecore wetland
  • Construction of two drop structures and several armourstone weirs
  • Installation of a historic plaque addressing the history of the area
  • Site restoration with native trees and shrubs (pending)
  • Host a community planting event (details to be provided when available)
