Learn More About: the Role of a TRCA Planner

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) Planning and Permits planners are the main contact for all Planning and Permit applications.

More specifically:

Planning Act Applications are submitted to the municipality. As required, the municipality will request that TRCA review these applications and provide expert advice.

All other applications are submitted to TRCA directly by the applicant. For more information, please refer to our:

Once an application is received by TRCA, a planner will be assigned to your project.

Your planner will:

1. Guide you through the process.
2. Be the main point of contact for all communications, including coordination of information requests, comment clarifications, meetings, and site visits.
3. Determine the level of review, as well as administrative review fees in accordance with TRCA’s approved administrative fee schedule. Planners generally determine fee requirements after the application has been screened; once determined, planners will invoice the billing contact.
4. Through a streamlined review process which follows specific policies, guidelines, and checklists:

  1. Screen your application and circulate it for technical review.
  2. Provide coordinated policy and technical comments, as well as signoffs and approvals as applicable.
  3. Ensure that TRCA legislated and regulatory requirements are followed.
  4. For projects which require access to TRCA-owned land or TRCA Archaeological Review, our planners will liaise with TRCA Property Management and Archaeology staff to ensure a coordinated approach.
  5. Where appropriate, TRCA will coordinate review with other approval agencies or peer review consultants.
5. Once a permit is issued, our planners will work with TRCA Enforcement and Compliance officers to ensure Conservation Authorities Act regulatory requirements are addressed on an as needed basis.

Other application types reviewed through our Planning and Permits teams include: general inquiries; pre-application consultation and concept review; master plan or environmental assessment review; requests for permission to enter TRCA-owned lands; requests for TRCA Project Compliance Review; and all applications for a permit in in accordance with the Conservation Authorities Act and its regulations.
