Learn More About: TRCA Planning and Permits

Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) Planning and Permits staff have roles for review and coordination with municipalities, landowners, and infrastructure providers for proposals within TRCA Regulated Areas, in accordance with Planning Act, environmental assessment legislation, the Conservation Authorities Act (CAA), and associated regulations.

Where applicable, TRCA staff coordinate the review of these proposals with our review and approval role under the CAA and Ontario Regulation 41/24 for TRCA permits.

While Planning Act applications are submitted to the local municipality and circulated to TRCA for comment, all other applications are submitted directly to TRCA through the TRCA Application Portal.

Within two (2) business days of receiving your application, the TRCA planner assigned to your file will contact you.

In TRCA Planning and Permits, your TRCA planner is responsible for coordinating the review of your application. This includes screening your application and circulating it for technical review.

Then, through a streamlined process that follows specific policies, guidelines and checklists, our planners will provide applicants with coordinated policy and technical comments, as well as signoffs and approvals as applicable.

Where appropriate, TRCA will coordinate this review role with other approval agencies or peer review consultants.

Once a permit is issued, the planner will advise TRCA’s Enforcement and Compliance officers, who then take over the lead in ensuring Conservation Authorities Act regulatory requirements are addressed as your project is built.

Please Note

If you need access to TRCA-owned land or an archaeological review, you can also submit your application online. Additional information is available on our Property Management and Archaeology webpages. As appropriate, additional direction will be provided by your planner.
