Award Celebrates TRCA’s Environmental Leadership and Commitment to Sustainable Workplaces
April 22, 2025, Toronto, ON – Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) is proud to announce its recognition as one of Canada’s Greenest Employers for 2025. Launched in 2007, this national designation acknowledges organizations that demonstrate leadership in environmental stewardship, sustainable workplace practices, and integrating environmental values into their corporate culture, all of which help attract and retain employees who share those values.
This recognition highlights TRCA’s continued efforts to integrate sustainability into all areas of its operations and aligns with the organization’s mission to protect, conserve, and restore natural resources while strengthening resilient communities.

TRCA has long been recognized as a leader in green initiatives and sustainable practices. More than a decade ago, it was among the first organizations to install electric vehicle charging (EVC) infrastructure across its facilities. This work expanded through the Partners in Project Green program, in which TRCA partnered with Toronto Pearson Airport, government agencies, and private sector leaders to significantly grow the network of EVC stations throughout the Toronto region.
The 2025 award comes at a pivotal time for TRCA, aligning with the opening of its new, state-of-the-art administrative office building – one of the most environmentally advanced commercial buildings in North America. Constructed using mass timber, a low-carbon building material, the facility features a geo-exchange system for heating and cooling, integrated green infrastructure for stormwater management, and a green roof.
The building has achieved LEED Platinum v4.1 certification for new construction and is on track to meet both Toronto Green Standard Level 2 and the Canada Green Building Council’s Zero Carbon Building Standard.
Beyond physical infrastructure, TRCA actively promotes environmental stewardship through a range of community-focused initiatives. The organization supports transformative green projects such as The Meadoway, which is revitalizing a hydro corridor in Scarborough into a 16-kilometre stretch of urban greenspace that connects downtown Toronto to Rouge National Urban Park.
Programs like Look After Where You Live engage corporate groups in meaningful environmental activities, including native tree and shrub plantings, conservation clean-ups, and the stewardship of natural areas like Tommy Thompson Park and The Meadoway.
TRCA also encourages employee involvement through volunteer opportunities such as tree planting events and community clean-ups. Staff are further supported in connecting with nature through complimentary access to TRCA Conservation Areas, along with discounted rates on nature-based education programs and outdoor learning opportunities available throughout the year.
These initiatives reflect the organization’s commitment to embedding sustainability within its workplace culture – an approach that aligns closely with the values recognized by Canada’s Greenest Employers.
