From The Globe and Mail: Gibraltar Point on the Brink?

Gibraltar Point, at the southwesterly tip of the Toronto Islands, has a long and storied past. Like its European namesake, which stands watch over the entrance to the Mediterranean Sea, the point once was integral to the defense of the young settlement that became modern Toronto.

Today, Gibraltar Point is increasingly endangered by erosion — so severely, in fact, that it could split in two within the next 20 years. As The Globe and Mail’s Daniel Rotsztain reports, action must be taken — and soon — if this historic locale is to survive.

“Intervention is necessary. Without intervention, you’d lose those inland wetlands and important breeding grounds for fish. Those habitats would be completely gone with a breakthrough.”Ethan Griesbach, TRCA
