Overnight Summer Camp

Give your child the opportunity to make the 400 acres of Claremont Nature Centre their home for a week! Let the forest, stream, and meadow become their backyard, and let their interests and passions guide the day. They will build community, connect with the land, and learn new skills in this immersive overnight camp.

Claremont camps focus on the individual while helping develop a deep connection with nature and prioritizing skill-based learning. With the support of our experienced camp counselors, campers will learn how to build shelters and fires, practice their identification skills and search for wild edibles in the forest.

Our limited camp registration allows us to follow the passions of the group and support your child’s interests through custom learning.

NOTE: Parents will drop off youngsters on Sunday afternoon, and pick up the following Saturday morning at the Claremont Nature Centre; Friday night pick-up option is available by request.

Summer Nature Day Camps

Camp Details:

  • Dates: July 8 to August 30, 2019 (Weekly, Monday to Friday)
  • Time: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with optional extended care
  • Extended Care: 7:30 to 9:00 am | 4:00 to 5:30 pm ($60 per week)
  • Hot Lunch: Optional hot lunch available ($30 per week)
  • Ages: 5 to 12 years
  • Cost per camp: $225 + per camper (Short weeks are $180 per camper)

Amazing Animals! July 8-12

Campers will learn about the different animal groups though hikes, games, and activities. Follow animal tracks, and solve mysteries while investigating a variety of wildlife habitats.

Wilderness Survival: July 15-19

Could your child survive in the wilderness? Working together, campers will build a shelter, learn how to make a fire, enjoy cedar tea, and see who will be the last camper standing in our all-camp game!

Nature Art: July 22-26

Using nature as inspiration campers will draw and paint outdoors, make earth art using natural materials and create clay sculptures from clay dug out of the pristine Duffins creek.

Spy Camp: July 29 – August 2

Campers will spend the week learning to supercharge their senses and spy on nature. During the camp they will learn about tracking animals, using binoculars, camouflage, moving silently and spying into the private lives of animals.

Outdoor Explorer Camp: August 6-9 (short week: $180/week + $48/week for before and after care)

Learn how to use a map and compass, go Geo-caching and explore tracks and signs of animals in this camp designed for the explorer at heart. Find your next adventure in the woods, stream and meadows around the Claremont Field Centre.

Forest Magic: August 12-16

Take a closer look at the magic the forest has to offer! Campers will be sorted into element “houses” before making their own wand, learning about natural potions, and connecting with their roots.

Junior Archaeologist: August 19-23

Ready, Set, Dig! Campers will have fun participating in simulated digs and hands-on archaeology based experiments. Campers will get to meet real archaeologists, learn about a nearby archaeological site and examine real artifacts.

Bugology: August 26-30

This one is for the bug lover at heart! Learn about different types of insects, their behaviors, senses and adaptations. Build bug hotels, make friends with worms and chase butterflies that fly by!

Weekend Programs

Riversong

Riversong is a program for girls aged 7 to 14 who love running in the woods, connecting with nature, and building new skills. The program runs over the course of five Saturdays, from March through June, in the forest surrounding Claremont Nature Centre.

Forest Explorers Nature Club

Let’s explore Claremont Forest! In this hands-on outdoor program for youngsters aged 6 to 12, participants will learn about nature through active play, discovery and skill building. Activities will include building fires, exploring the creek and playing games in the forest.

Winter Mini-Camp

Play, explore and make memories outdoors this winter break!

Our fun-filled days will include a mix of games, crafts and outdoor activities like learning how to make a fire, creating forts and following animal tracks through the Claremont forest.

  • For ages 5 to 12 years
  • Dates: January 2020 (TBA)
  • Hours: 9:00 am to 4:00 pm
    Optional extended care: 7:30 am to 9:00 am & 4:00 pm to 5:30 pm

Fees Per Participant:

  • $50 per day or $140 for all three days
  • Optional hot lunch: $6 per camper per day
  • Optional extended care: $15 per day

Hot Lunch menu:

  • Wednesday: Baked Chicken Nuggets and Ceaser Salad
  • Thursday: Tomato Soup and Grilled Cheese with Coleslaw
  • Friday: Cheese Pizza and Garden Salad

Each day includes milk, fresh fruit and a treat.
