Give your kids an incredible outdoor adventure at Claremont Nature Centre, located on a beautiful 160-hectare property in Durham Region. We offer a wide variety of immersive wilderness experiences designed to engage young minds and inspire creativity.

INFORMATION FOR PARENTS

Claremont Nature Centre is located at 4290 Westney Rd N, Goodwood, ON L0C 1A0.
MAP + DIRECTIONS

Claremont camps focus on the individual while helping develop a deep connection with nature and prioritizing skill-based learning. With the support of our experienced camp counselors, campers will learn how to build shelters and fires, practice their identification skills and search for wild edibles in the forest.

Our limited camp registration allows us to follow the passions of the group and support your child’s interests through custom learning.

NOTE: Parents will drop off youngsters on Sunday afternoon, and pick up the following Saturday morning at the Claremont Nature Centre; Friday night pick-up option is available by request.

Winter Mini-Camp

Play, explore and make memories outdoors this winter break!

Our fun-filled days include a mix of games, crafts and outdoor activities like learning how to make a fire, creating forts and following animal tracks through the Claremont forest.

CAMP INFORMATION:

  • For ages 5 to 12 years
  • Dates: Monday December 30, 2019 to Friday January 3, 2020*
  • Hours: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
    Optional extended care: 7:30 to 9:00 a.m. | 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.

FEES PER PARTICIPANT:

  • $50 per day or $180 for all four days
  • Optional hot lunch: $6 per camper per day

Summer Nature Day Camps

Connect with nature through hikes, games and creative play! Claremont Nature Centre features ponds, creeks, wetlands, meadows and forests — all just waiting to be explored. Select from a wide variety of themed weeks.

  • For ages 4 to 14 years
  • Each week-long camp has a distinctive theme
  • Dates: Week of June 29 through week of August 30, 2020
  • Time: 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with optional extended care

Description: Get ready to discover the 400 acres of Claremont! Learn how to use a map and compass, go geocaching, and explore tracks and signs of animals in this camp designed for the explorer at heart.

July 6-10, 2020: Nature Art
Description: Art is all around us! Campers will use nature as inspiration as they draw and sketch life in the forest, make earth art, paint natural items, and create clay sculptures from clay dug out of the pristine Duffins Creek.

July 13-17, 2020: Bugology
Description: This one is for the bug lover at heart! Learn about different types of insects, their behaviors, senses and adaptations. Get ready to get some dirt under your nails, make friends with worms, and chase butterflies that fly by!

July 20-24, 2020: Wilderness Survival
Description: Could your child survive in the wilderness? Working together, campers will build a shelter, learn how to make a fire, enjoy cedar tea, and see who will be the last camper standing in our all-camp game!

July 20-24, 2020: NEW! Counsellor in Training (C.I.T.) Camp
Description: Campers will participate in leadership activities and challenges while mastering classic camp skills such as fire building, group games, and low ropes. The week will culminate with the C.I.T. campers leading their own activity, and earning a certificate of achievement!

July 27-31, 2020: Forest Magic
Description: Take a closer look at the magic the forest has to offer! Campers will be sorted into element “houses” before making their own wand, learning about natural potions, and connecting with their roots.

August 4-7, 2020*: Amazing Animals
Description: Campers will learn about the different animal groups though hikes, games, and activities. Get your camper ready to embrace their animal instincts as they look for signs of animals, and learn about animal adaptations!

August 10-14, 2020: Spy Camp
Description: Campers will spend the week learning to supercharge their senses and spy on nature. During the camp they will learn about tracking animals, using binoculars and camouflage, moving silently, and spying into the private lives of animals.

August 17-21, 2020: Junior Archaeology
Description: Ready, set, dig! Campers will have fun participating in simulated digs and hands-on archaeology-based experiments. Campers will get to meet real archaeologists, learn about a nearby archaeological site, and examine authentic artifacts.

Description: Campers will set up a “home base”, learn navigation techniques, and roast marshmallows while finding their own adventures in the woods, streams, and meadows of the Claremont Nature Centre!

Overnight Summer Camp

Give your child the opportunity to make the 400 acres of Claremont Nature Centre their home for a week!

Let the forest, stream, and meadow become their backyard, and let their interests and passions guide the day. They will build community, connect with the land, and learn new skills in this immersive overnight camp.

Weekend Programs

RIVERSONG

Riversong is a program for girls aged 7 to 14 who love running in the woods, connecting with nature, and building new skills. The program runs over the course of five Saturdays in the forest surrounding Claremont Nature Centre.

FOREST EXPLORERS NATURE CLUB

Let’s explore Claremont Forest! In this hands-on outdoor program for youngsters aged 6 to 12, participants will learn about nature through active play, discovery and skill building. Activities will include building fires, exploring the creek and playing games in the forest.
