Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA) in partnership with the City of Toronto, has completed remedial flood and erosion control works behind Topcliff Avenue to provide long-term protection to private property from the hazards of erosion and slope instability.
Project Location
The project is located in the City of Toronto, near the intersection of Finch Avenue West and Jane Street.
Scope of Work
- Start Date: October 2024
- End Date: May 2025
The goal of this project was to stabilize the slope behind Topcliff Avenue and address erosion concerns within Derrydowns Park to provide long-term protection to residential dwellings at the top of slope from the continued hazards of uncontrolled erosion and slope instability. The scope of work included the following which conformed to the preferred solutions determined in the Class Environmental Assessement:
- Construction of a mechanically stabilized earth (MSE) wall to stabilize the slope
- Construction of an armourstone wall at the toe of slope to provide protection from the creek
- Realignment of the creek upstream below Finch Ave, constructing vegetated buttresses for erosion protection
- Restore site with native vegetation plantings
