At Toronto and Region Conservation Authority (TRCA), review of planning and permit applications goes through one of two planning teams: Infrastructure Planning and Permits or Development Planning and Permits.
Infrastructure Planning and Permits (IPP) Staff
are generally responsible for the review of infrastructure support systems
for an agency or municipality, such as:
- Municipal or provincial water, wastewater, roads, transit, stormwater management facilities, including new facilities that will be built by or assumed by a municipality to facilitate development such as a pumping station
- Public schools, parks, community or recreation centres, public libraries
- EMS (including police, fire, ambulance stations)
- Public museums and galleries; for example: the Ontario Science Centre, Ontario Place, Peel Heritage Complex, Pickering Museum, McMichael Gallery
- Public hospitals (provincial)
- Public colleges and universities, including those recognized as Crown agencies
- Infrastructure required to support development (excluding draft plans of subdivisions)
Development Planning and Permits (DPP) Staff
are generally responsible for the review of infrastructure support systems
for private or partially private services or institutions, such as:
- Private healthcare centres or clinics
- Religious institutions, such as temples, mosques, churches, or synagogues
- Private schools, academies, and colleges
- Private daycares
- Housing, including seniors’ centres, public housing
- Privately-owned museums and galleries
- Private infrastructure, such as helicopter landing pads for business/personal use
- Municipal property severance for development purposes
