During this half-day Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) certification, students will work in a cooperative team situation to understand and practice some important aspects of basic survival techniques in the outdoors.
Each working group will be challenged to construct a shelter from non-living, natural materials. They will also construct a small cooking fire and boil water for cedar tea.
Key elements of this lesson stress a no-trace camping philosophy, as well as the safety aspects of preparation and planning for a successful outdoor experience.
