Climate change is rapidly impacting us on both a local and global scale. Join TRCA and PEYA (Peel Environmental Youth Alliance) for a panel discussion to hear youth voices on climate change. Bring your questions for our panelists and be inspired to take action on climate change.

This program is recommended for students in Grades 9-12 in Peel Region.

Speaker Bios

Grace Gong, PeelEnvironmental Youth Alliance (PEYA)

Grace is a grade 12 student at Erindale Secondary School where she started her school’s eco club and started the initiative, GreenshirtEco (which aims to reduce the impacts of fast fashion by promoting reuse in communities). She has been a part of PEYA since Grade 9 and is currently one of the executive members. PEYA engages people of all ages in environmental initiatives to promote sustainability and environmental stewardship. She is also a member of Ontario Nature Youth Council.

Shazerah Qureshi, Peel Environmental Youth Alliance (PEYA)

Shazerah is a grade 12 student with a passion for environmental and social justice. She joined PEYA in grade 6 and has been on the executive since grade 9. PEYA works to empower people especially youth to be environmental stewards through events to engage and educate the Peel community. She is the president of her school’s environmental council and is the high school representative on the Environmental Action Committee for the City of Mississauga.

Ayush Chopra, SDGs For Children

Ayush is a grade 12 student at Rick Hansen Secondary School and is the founder of SDGs For Children, which has been recognized with The Diana Award, the highest accolade a young person can achieve for social action or humanitarian efforts. SDGs For Children is a unique platform for children across the globe to connect, create, and collaborate for a better and sustainable world. He is the Indian Ambassador for the TeachSDGs project, the Youth Ambassador for the Arial Foundation, and a Youth Representative at United Nations. He is also the author of Shaping a Fairer World with SDGs and Human Rights and has his own podcast, Shaping A Fairer World.

Cheyenne Sundance, Sundance Harvest

Cheyenne is a organic farmer who has worked in both rural and urban settings where she tended to fields of vegetables, fruit forests and livestock. Her farming has always been with a social justice framework since being able to grow your own food is the foundation of independence. She is a food justice educator with experience working in community organizing and political resistance movements. Cheyenne is founder and farmer of Sundance Harvest , which is a year round urban farm in Toronto, Ontario that focuses on food justice and eradicating systemic racism in the food system.
