Spring Bird Event: Birding for Beginners

Get to know the wealth of bird diversity that calls Ontario home, starting from the very basics.

Learn to recognize common birds, discover the tools and guides best suited to birding beginners, and develop the skills that will have you picking out warblers like a pro.

Join us to begin your birding journey!

This program is part of TRCA’s Spring Bird Festival, a series of events celebrating the return of 50 million migratory birds to Toronto and raising awareness on how to protect our feathered friends in the city.

The cost for this program is $15 + HST per ticket. If costs presents a financial barrier to your purchase, please contact tisha.tan@trca.ca.

We’ll meet at the Tommy Thompson Park Nature Centre, which is a short 10-minute hike in from the park entrance.

The first half of this program will be an indoor presentation inside of the Nature Centre. The second part will be an outdoor guided birding hike.

Be Prepared:

  • Please dress appropriately for the weather. Don’t forget to check the weather forecast when preparing.
  • Ensure you wear comfortable close-toed shoes for the outdoor birding portion of the program.
  • Flush washrooms are located at the main entrance of the park, so please plan accordingly.
  • Bring a personal water bottle and snacks, if needed.
  • If you have your own binoculars, please bring them! Extra pairs will also be available.

This event is intended for Ages 6+:

  • Beginner level information
  • Activities and concepts that are friendly for all ages
  • Intended audience includes children, youth, and adults

Parking/Transit Info: Free, public parking is available at the main entrance of the park, directly adjacent to the park pavilion. The entrance to the lot is on Unwin Ave, just west of Leslie St. If taking transit, take the 83 Jones bus to Commissioners St., and walk to Tommy Thompson Park from there.

Cancellation Policy: Cancellation requests received by TRCA more than 14 days before the start of the program will receive a 75% refund of the relevant program fees paid. Cancellation requests received by TRCA less than 14 days before the start of the program do not qualify for a refund. Minimum registration numbers required for program to operate. In the event TRCA must cancel the program due to low registration or government order, a full refund will be issued.
