This Teaching & Learning with Monarch Butterflies workshop is proudly offered by the Monarch Teacher Network of Canada, in collaboration with Camp Kawartha Environment Centre.

This immersive workshop has been designed to give participants the knowledge, skills, and resources to create outstanding learning experiences for their students, nature clubs, and community.

Educators participate in Monarch Teacher Network of Canada workshop

Delivered by experts from the Monarch Teacher Network of Canada, the session will give participants the chance learn about the life cycle, migration and habitat requirements of the Monarch butterfly, and to build two enclosures for rearing caterpillars and butterflies.

Training on appropriate handling and care protocols, tagging and tracking of migrating Monarchs and ethical considerations related to species conservation will also be covered.

Morning refreshments and lunch will be provided.

Using innovative green architecture, our environmental education centre showcases alternative energy in action. Designed and built by students in Fleming College’s Sustainable Building Design and Construction program, the centre is, in the words of program coordinator and award-winning sustainable builder Chris Magwood, “one of Canada’s most sustainable buildings.”

Located on more than 200 acres of Trent University’s stunning wildlife sanctuary lands, this unique 2,000-square-foot structure is open for programming year round, and will accommodate up to 80 people at any one time.
