Bring your family and join us this Family Day to explore the diversity of bird species that live on Toronto Island Park during the winter months and how to identify them. We’ll learn how to use binoculars and wear them on our birding adventure along Toronto’s waterfront!

Event Details

Date and Time: Monday, February 17, 2025 from 12:45 p.m. to 2:15 p.m. Timing may vary slightly as the tour will commence upon the arrival of the 12:30 p.m. Ward’s Island ferry boat to the Ward’s Island Ferry Dock.

Location: Ward’s Island, Toronto Island Park. Meet your event leader at the Ward’s Island Ferry Dock.

Ticket Price: Tickets for this event are free.

Parking/Transit Info: Participants are encouraged to take the 12:30 p.m. Ward’s Island ferry, which departs from the Jack Layton Ferry Terminal. To buy ferry tickets in advance and view the ferry schedule, visit the City of Toronto’s website. Hike leaders will meet participants at the Ward’s Island Ferry Dock upon the arrival of the ferry boat around 12:45 p.m. The hike will end upon return to the Ward’s Island Ferry Dock in time for participants to take the 2:15 p.m. ferry back to the mainland.

Cancellation Policy: The event will run rain or shine but will be cancelled if there is a chance of thunderstorms, hazardous weather, or ferry service disruption. Registrants will be emailed by 7:00 a.m. on the day of the event if there is a cancellation. Please direct any questions regarding the cancellation policy for this event to jasmine.thompson@trca.ca.

Be Prepared

• Please dress appropriately for a cold, winter day. This program will take place completely outdoors. Don’t forget to wear warm layers, a toque, scarf, and gloves!
• Ensure you wear comfortable and sturdy footwear with good traction.
• Bring a personal water bottle and snacks, if needed.
• If you have your own binoculars, please bring them! Extra pairs will also be available.
